For all of you bitching and moaning about the snow, I just want to say that this is what happens when hell freezes over. Which is what happened with the Sox winning the World Series.

I loved the word "indefinitely" in that email. It conjures up images of only being able to park on one side of the street in June!

I just wonder what happens when the snow emergency parking regs collide with the street cleaning regs in April. Will we have to park our cars in our bathrooms?

The option of driving around for 4 hours is always available.

I saw someone in a minivan doing this over the weekend since he had problems finding a space, I assume. The plows kept honking at him when he'd pull over to stop driving. No rest for him...

Don't remind me of that option! Spent an hour driving around, and just when I was about to give up, a spot opened up on the bridge near City Hall.

Seriously, though - what are we supposed to do when they lift the emergecny and the side of the street that we can now park on is still unplowed?

Just so you know, on those occasions where the city has declared a snow emergency and school is cancelled, you can park in the school parking lots/playgrounds. In your case, there's one half a block down on School St from Highland. Just call the police to double-check to clear it. I called last night and had to tell the officer that school was cancelled.

As for afterwards, I don't know. Parking can be tough enough, but take away half the parking spaces?

Jesus, a bunch of years ago I had the idea for a futuristic short story about how people gave up living in houses and apartments and moved into RVs, with entire generations living and dying on them. Think "Enterprise" meets "Road Warrior" meets "Beverly Hillbilies".

Goes to show maybe it wasn't such a far-fetched idea for a story.

I'm wondering if this is their cheap way of saying they have no intention of plowing the even number side of the streets so just don't park there. I'm feeling very grateful for our driveway right now!

fwiw, streets in somerville are MUCH better than in Cambridge right now. Neither location seems to be widening the streets/plowing the parking-restricted side. unsure why, except that they don't know where to put the mass of snow that will have accumulated once they reach an intersection.
