Major police activity in Porter Square.

Cedar Street is closed in the last block before Elm St for some kind of major police presence in that area on Cedar and Cherry near Elm St. I'm not sure what's going on, but it looks like there's SWAT teams gearing up.

ETA: apparently a hostage situation. It's over now, and the various police and fire and other vehicles are starting to clear out.

my wife just called me from behind Shaws to see what's up as she was trying to get through there on her bike just now.
Apparently there was a bomb threat, I'm guessing at Porter sq. station but the second part's just a guess.

Their command post is a bit far off from the station for it to be a threat at the station, I think. My first thought was something at the Cherry St school, but school's out of session.

The Command Post should be set in what's considered a COLD zone, so it would not be near the threat.

Technicality since it's over, but the T station is in Cambridge, so the Somerville police wouldn't be involved. I've seen Cambridge and T police there over the years, but never Somerville.

I'm pretty sure the SWAT teams around here are composed of personnel from multiple municipalities. Since these kinds of incidents are rare, it doesn't make sense for them to train more than a small number of officers in each department.
