Hello Everyone! :D

We are looking for one more roommate to join us in our lovely Medford apartment. The room is for $525/mo plus gas, electric, and cable/internet. This is for September 1st, and you will be signing a lease, with 1st and last month’s rent.

About the Place: Our place is the top 2 floors of a house with 2 bathrooms, sitting/recreation room, living/TV room, 4 bedrooms, kitchen, project (for sewing, crafting, whatevs!) room, back sitting room/plant growing room, and outside back patio that is shared with the downstairs tenants. The place comes with a washer/dryer unit, dishwasher, and common space AC. The back patio also has a fire pit!

The house is located near Bowdoin Street & Colby Street, Medford, right next to the Tufts science building. It is about a 10 min walk to Davis/red line, and about a 5 min walk to the 89,101,88, 80, etc. There is ample on street parking (off-street parking is much more lax in Medford than Somerville).

There is a cat, Boo, that lives with us. She will be the ONLY cat in the house.

About Us: We are 3 young professionals: 2 gay males and 1straight female. We’re laid back and enjoy a variety of activities: watching movies, the occasional communal specialty meal, crafting/sewing, computery biz, video games, etc. We all have different work schedules, but that doesn’t stop us from having fun times! All in all, we’re very respectful of each other, and ... we’re really awesome!

If you are interested, please include a bit about yourself in your reply to this post. : )

Wouldn't that location be about a 15-20 minute walk to Davis Square?

You're probably a fast walker. (Don't worry, I am too!)

According to Google (which assumes 3 mph pace) the walking distance between the 101 bus line a Davis Square is 20 minutes, so you can't be both a 10 minute walk from Davis and 5 minute walk from the 101. Unless you're exactly on the Somerville line at the closest possibly point to the square, it would probably be more accurate to say a 15 minute walk to Davis than 10.

Google always overestimates walking time, in my experience.

I always assume walking times in apartment or house ads are grossly underestimated. I don't think it's purposely deceitful in most cases, I just think people are either glowingly optimistic, or basing their timing on one of their housemates who happens to be a marathon runner.

That does seem to be the case here, as the walking distance from the intersection mentioned to the closest Davis T entrance is .9 miles.

I live a little more than a mile from our closest T stop and it takes me about 15 minutes to walk home, going uphill. I am not a runner by any stretch of the imagination. I am actually quite short and plump. So, this seems perfectly do-able. And, if it's where I'm picturing it to be, then yes. It's probably only about 10 minutes away. You can cut through the 'hood rather than walking up and around and back down.

I understand about no more cats. How about dogs? Um, large dogs? Large, elderly, heavily drugged dogs? :)

It's not me, it's my brother. His dog is a massive German Shepherd/Dobie mix, with maybe some Great Dane in there because he is Just That Large. He's a great dog, and my bro is devoted to him, but it does make it hard to find housing.

(Dog is ~12, we're not sure because my bro and his friends adopted him from strayhood, and is failing rapidly. Spends his days on doggie Prozac now, as his lifelong abandonment/protection issues had made him so anxious in his old age that he was chewing at his own fur, poor sweetie. *snuggles dog* Is consequently very mellow; as my bro's ex says, "I bet he can see colors now!")

Sadly, this is a dog that needs to not live with other dogs. He can cope with small female dogs for a few days at a time (and is fine with cats) but not with female dogs bigger than a beagle or so, and absolutely can't be around any male dogs. Issue Dog has Issues. :(
