According to NabeWise, a site for exploring neighborhoods in different cities, Davis Square is the #1 trendiest neighborhood in Boston. As someone who used to live in Davis, I think it's pretty true. Anyone else think so?
Current Location:United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge
i've been househunting and have searched through southie a couple times--the majority of it is made up of stretches of ugly houses in congested areas. Then you have giant falling apart parking lots the size of davis and chain link fences all over the place. any area in boston is going to have some nice bits, but the waterfront still has a ways to go I think. even menino has referred to it as a disappointment/slow process.
The Waterfront is nice and has lots of awesome new construction, but I don't think it's affordable to yuppies/artists/hipsters who don't have a trust fund.
I think the areas closer to south station are still hip as it shifts from "actual artists' lofts" to "loft housing"
Also, some of the areas around the south end past Columbus Ave are looking pretty gentrified. I used to do construction work around that area in the mid 80's as it was just becoming condotastic (but you could still find needles and have your car broken into in broad daylight), but now it's way more upscale looking.
i just walked through the south end 2 weeks ago (I used to almostlive there aka dated someone there about 10 years ago). It was gentrified quite a bit then, now it's transforming to something a bit more trendy I think. I'd probably vote the south end as being the "trendiest" part of boston, going by a more strict definition of what trendy actually means :)
you are right about that bit of south boston, though I feel like that's more an extension of downtown than a part of actual southie, heh. but, it's also a pretty small bit.
seriously. JP is a black hole of public transport too. i mean, speaking as a person who goes out all the time and is buddies with lots of area djs and promoters, JP isn't even really on the radar, unless you're a lesbian who likes to garden.
i have no idea though what the OP means by 'trendy' exactly, and if that's supposed to be a negative or a positive :p i mean, if you're going by literal current trends, hell, allston would have to be in there, much as it pains me to say it. you want more artsy or upscale, south end or back bay.
i didn't say it was inaccessible, it's just a pain in the ass. and i always get lost there, if i'm going any place that isn't on centre street, basically.
