After beating myself up for ages over never finding anything that fits me right (too long, too wide, too short, too narrow and some ungodly combo of all of the above), I have decided that it will probably be easier for me to make my own clothing. I wear mostly larger Junior Miss sizes, but they don't make business casual clothing for Junior Misses and, frankly, I'm getting too old to not feel funny in a lot of newer fashions for teenaged girls. Conversely, I'm too wide for petites, too small for Lane Bryant and too short AND too wide for most other stores.

The point? Can anyone recommend a good place in the Somerville / Medford area who offers sewing classes? Or, if any of you are avid sewers / crafty type people with a little free time, would you like to teach a Domestic Idiot how to sew?

Thanks!

There's that sewing store in Davis Sq. that offers sewing classes. It right in the middle of Davis, on Elm St., and has a big "Singer" sign. I think it's actually called something like "Sewing and Vacuum Center".

The sewing store in Davis Square (funny, I have never noticed it having a name...maybe it's really called the Sewing Store in Davis Square) has terrific classes that are not at all spendy. They are very friendly and helpful.

research!

It's called Somerville Sewing Center. I went in to buy some thread and vacuum bags and deliberately wrote a check so I could find out the what it's called! There is no evidence of the name on or inside the building.

If you have a car you can head up to Jo-Anns for sewing classes. Feel free to ask me questions if you'd like. I'm a sewer and am happy to answer where I can.
