Hey, guys.  Some time last night, the studio my friend uses got broken into.  She got a call from the owner today.  It's right off of Cedar, towards the end closer to Highland Ave.  It looks like a garage, and I think is painted purple?  I've only been there at night, so I'm not sure about the color.  And there's a hanging wood sign outside that says something about an Art Studio, Woodworking, and something else I can't remember.

They took her sewing machine and expensive bluetooth headphones.  They also took someone else's two sewing machines.  I don't know what else may have been taken from other artists using the space.  My friend's machine is a Singer Esteem.  The headphones were made by Altec.  I don't know anything about any of the other stuff.

If you saw anything (like maybe a person going in and out a bunch of times taking out some sewing machines), please PLEASE notify the Somerville police, and let me know if you do.  These people had expensive stuff stolen that they used to do something they were passionate about.  And if you see any of the stuff mentioned above turn up on Craig's or maybe a yard sale or something, go ahead and pass the info on to me and hopefully something can be done about it.

Thanks everyone.

Are you talking about Muskat Studios, which is actually on Cedar St.? They have purple trim, and the place does look like a garage.

I'm sorry, but I don't think really understand exactly where or what you're talking about. If you can get more details, it might help others to help you and your friend.

because the comment wasn't re-ed to you.

I thought it might be the same one you were thinking it was

Ahh, sorry about that. I've only been there once or twice so I couldn't really remember what street it was near or anything. But I Google mapped it. Turns out it's not purple. Thought it was in the dark. I'll edit my post and add a street view screen shot. If you're walking down Cedar street from Highland Ave, it's on your right in between Albion and Alpine. It really does look like an old garage, but the whole thing is broken up into studio space for maybe 6 or 7 artists.

The police actually will put an RSS feed in their database looking for those models of sewing machines on craigslist. They do that with all stolen material. So while it's nice for people to do that, fyi, it's not necessary. I did it for the items that were in my car, but it was for my own sanity, not because they weren't doing it.

your friend may already have thought of this

also, homeowners insurance may cover replacement of the sewing machine? I know the items don't have to physically be in your home to be covered, but don't know if it would have needed a special rider due to being an expensive model (like computer/camera gear usually needs).

just a thought.

I passed this on to the editor of Patch.com; would the folks who got stolen from be willing to speak quickly to a reporter?

Oh no! I used to have space in that studio last fall. I'm really sorry to hear this happened.

It's called Prince Studios, the address is 145 Cedar St (if OP wants to put mreo specific information up).

Hope the equipment is recovered.
