Hi All--

I'm offering a drawing class out of my S'ville studio, and it was suggested to me that I mention it here. (I hope that's okay!)

Figure Drawing From the Inside Out
a five-week anatomical-study class for artists
Class size is extremely limited; contact me here or through my website, www.rachelmello.com/classes to register now!

Do you participate in a figure drawing group and find yourself wanting to go deeper?
Has it been years since you drew the figure in school?
Do your figures stand on ovals or have oven-mitts for hands?

We've all been there!

There's so much to express in the movement, stoke, and gesture, but after while you can begin to feel stuck--like your drawing isn't progressing and your people don't quite feel like people to you. That's a good time to take a step back and study what's going on underneath all those curves, shadows and postures.

Drawing from a full-size anatomical study skeleton, using anatomical charts and master-drawings for additional study, we will dive into how the "head bone's connected to the neck bone," to further your sketching, drawing, and painting.

-small classes of 4 to 7 students
-focused study
-individual drawing instruction with MCC honored artist, Rachel Mello

$195 includes basic drawing supplies (paper, charcoal, pencils) and use of easels and drawing-boards.
Students may also choose to work with their own ink or other water-based media.

Rachel Mello is a painter and printmaker in Somerville, MA, and has recently been honored by the Massachusetts Cultural Council as a Finalist in Painting, as well as by the Somerville Arts Council with an Artist Fellowship in 2007. She has a BFA and a Bachelors of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design, and an MFA from Brandies University.

Tangentially related, I once took a Human Gross Anatomy class, where we spent two semesters dissecting a cadaver. It was amazing! I highly recommend it for artists. (Most of the students were on the nursing track, but one was a figure artist and another was a yoga instructor.)
