Hi, I recently moved to Davis and I would like to meet some people that share the same hobbie as I do. that's why I'm looking to join a league or maybe a group of people playing volleyball.
Two years ago, the Somerville Recreation Department put together an adult co-ed volleyball league and posted this notice. I don't know if they're doing it again this year, but give them a call and ask.
I'm an avid volleyball fan and here's what I'm familiar with:
Cambridge Boston Volleyball Association --------------------------------------- This is where I play now - beginner, intermediate and advanced pick-up games on Sundays at the Amigos school near Harvard Square. It's a mostly gay league but their very welcoming to straight players like me and my sister. $20 a season and $7 a day for 3 hours of play. http://www.gayvolleyball.net/
Cambridge War Memorial Pick-Up Volleyball ----------------------------------------- I played here for a couple of years and its a friendly group located in Harvard Sq. Check out page 14 of their Fall pdf for schedule information: http://www.cambridgema.gov/CityOfCambridge_Content/documents/RecFall.pdf
YMCA Central Square ------------------- I played here a few years ago - it's right across the street from the Central Sq. T stop. I'm not seeing a schedule on their site but I didn't spend much time. http://www.cambridgeymca.org
Boston Ski & Sports Club ------------------------ I've never played with BSSC, but they support numerous local leagues and skills clinics. http://www.bssc.com/
Last, there's a Boston Volleyball Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bavp/
On the topic of volleyball, my almost 7 year old expressed an interest in learning the game but I have not been able to find any info about classes. (What I have found are classes for older kids. I guess she'll have to wait.)
I found a 'mini-volleyball' model for her age group, but alas, it's in the Netherlands! http://www.fivb.ch/EN/Programmes/Circulation%20volleyball%202003.pdf

Date: 2010-10-26 09:45 pm (UTC)Edit: The Rec Dept's fall brochure says:
Co-Ed Volleyball: Thursday evening at the Edgerly School from 6:00-10:00pm running for 10 weeks beginning October 7. Cost $20.00
That's in East Somerville, not Davis Square, but it's not that far away.
