Tom Champion: Up Close and Personal

Local celebrity Tom Champion, known as “the Voice of Somerville,” will make a special guest appearance Saturday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m. when the Somerville Community Chorus closes its 25th anniversary year with a special year-end concert at the Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church. He will narrate a cantata of Christmas music. 

Champion achieved minor celebrity status when, as director of public relations for the city, his voice was featured on automated telephone calls informing city residents of snow emergencies and other urgent news. His authoritative and reassuring voice earned him a Facebook fan club, inspired a series of haikus, and was sampled in a techno dance piece.

The Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church is at 155 Powder House Boulevard. Suggested donation is $15, $10 for seniors, and $6 for children under 18.

We've also heard him die in 1938 at the hands of rampaging Martians, he's made Frank Cyrano look more than a little silly in 1946, and once, he even helped defeat Dracula himself!
