Shaw's has apparently stopped carrying the 32-ounce blocks of Cabot cheese, and now only has eight-ounce blocks.

Since the lifespan of an eight-ounce block of Cabot Srsly Sharp is more properly measured in hours rather than days in our household, this is pain in the ass. What's the closest place to Davis/Porter that still has the two-pounders?

(To my surprise, I can't find a "groceries" tag, or even "food.")

Tag is 'local food' (someone created it long before I began tagging), but I doubt there are any earlier posts on this subject.

Market Basket...I'm pretty sure they have the seriously sharp if not the racers edge.

I buy the big block of seriously sharp there. I think they're about $4/lb in the 2 lb blocks, too.

You could, you know, buy four eight-ounce blocks... ;)

but that probably costs a fair amount more. Have you considered talking to the manager of the Porter Square store and asking them to re-order the 32-ounce size?

I'd bet on the Market basket in Union, it's cheaper anyway.

Not at all local, and impractical unless you're already a member or know someone who is, but Costco has it in like five-pound blocks.

on this note, Restaurant Depot likely has it in massive, inexpensive quantities as well.

Where is that, and is it open to the public?

Not (remotely) porter/davis, but Cheese Traders in Burlington, Vermont is a great place to stock up on Cabot cheddar. They sell "cheese ends", which are the parts of the cheese they cut off to make the blocks. It's something like $2 for a giant sack of them. Taste is the same, only the shape is weird. If you're ever up that way you should check it out.

Might want to check Formaggio kitchen in Cambridge, they have ALOT of cheese.

Hi! Wendy from Cabot Cheese here. Shaw's should still have the 2lb Seriously Sharp. If you tell me which location you go to, I'll dig in and find out what's up! You can email me at wendy@cabotcheese.com
Thanks!

This is awesome. It's the Porter Square Shaws, in Cambridge MA. We've sent email to this effect, too. Thanks for your help!

The Cabot team has reached out to the Shaw's buyer to let her know that the 2lb Seriously Sharp is seriously missed - now it is up to the store! Thank you for buying Cabot! (Did you know we're a co-op owned by 1200+ farm families? 100% of the profits go to the farmers!)

Just bought a (ok, two) 32 oz block(s) of Srsly Sharp at the Star Market/Shaws within spitting distance (1/2 mile) of the Porter Square one - in Somerville, down Somerville Ave and under the train at Sacramento. $9.99 each, and they had the Extra Sharp in big-block form too! Not as cheap at Market Basket, it sounds like, but it's pretty nearby, depending on where you live. I live just up the hill from this store, so I'm happy ^_^
