Does anyone know what I can do with used toys? I have a bunch of stuff for six month - 3 year old boys. Most of my friends have girls or older boys. Thank you.

There's the Children's Exchange (http://www.solutionsatwork.org/Services/ChildrensClothing.html). They accept gently used toys.

also the little fox shop in arlington (at the fox library near the capitol theatre). www.littlefoxshop.com
the website lists what they do and don't accept.

The Somerville moms mailing list often has folks offering toys for sale or free for pickup.

To join SomervilleMoms, follow the prompts on the website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SomervilleMoms/.
You will then receive an email asking you to send a brief biography to the moderator at SomervilleMoms-owner@yahoogroups.com.
New members are added to the listserv approximately once a week, after the moderator receives bios.

A few people have told me to join, but I'm not a mom yet (just entering my third trimester) and I'm not sure if it's too jinx-y to get on the list ahead of time. :]

If none of the above suggestions pan out, try Somerville Freecycle. Or just offer them here on DSLJ.

Not to be argumentative, but what makes these "toys for boys"? In my admittedly limited experience, children that young rarely care...

Plus there's the whole gender-identity enforcement aspect that's kinda weird, if you ask me (not that you did :-))

I had the same thought. Your friends with young girls might want the toys that come with boy gender stereotypes attached anyway.

My littlest goddaughter's favorite toys are trucks and Lego. (She is also ultra-girly in her fashion choices, and often vrooms trucks all over the place while clad in a tiara and tutu. She is awesome.)

Thank you for saying this.

The hyper-gendering of everything from a young age really bothers me.

If you join the Somerville Moms list, you can put them up for sale or for free there. They'll go very quickly.

There is an indoor playspace at the Somerville Recreation Department that accepts toy donations.
Address: 19 Walnut Street.

Also there is the Women's Center (http://www.cambridgewomenscenter.org/) in Cambridge near Central Square. They have a "free store" type space in their front foyer from which anyone can give and/or take. It's usually women's and kids' clothes and toys.
