Got the info below in my neighborhood yahoo group; the article is from the Somerville Patch website:

"City Mulls Hosting Porchfest, A Citywide Festival of Porch Concerts: The next big idea for an arts event is brewing in Somerville. The Somerville Arts Council is mulling over whether to introduce Porchfest, a house-by-house music festival where musicians perform on porches throughout the city. Think of it as open studios—very open and breezy studios—but for music."

Highland Rd would be a great street for this. Larger porches and little front yards for the "crowds"

Highland Road may be my favorite street in Somerville :-)

I have a porch, but it's on the second floor, which would limit interaction with the audience.

On the plus side, it's probably high enough that most of the rotten tomatoes would miss...

I am curious about the history...how did those folks get front yards? It's also miserable to drive down as it's not wide enough for 2 way traffic.

I would definitely be interested in having our porch used for that!

I'd be interested in playing at this, so I might stop by the meeting just to find out the how and the when. This is a really cool idea.

I would recommend a 2nd floor stage. No fighting to see the artist and better acoustics.

Would be interesting to combine this with Somerville Open Studios. Would make a really cool big event and differentiate it from other open studios. Also, could combine resources, etc instead of building from scratch.

I would give Orchard st the "best street" award, Highland feels a bit too suburban. Highland would be better for the Porchfest though. Here is a little history on the Highland Rd front yards:

A rooftop concert, as in Let it Be, would be awesome
