I was walking the other day and noticed this sign in the window of the auto shop between Day and Dover street. Looks like they want to expand. We're not sure if it's a big deal or not but wanted to bring to the community.
As special permits go, it sounds pretty ordinary - "more of the same, in the same area".
Personally, I think it's a big flaw in our zoning regulations (and those of most cities) that the majority of existing land uses are non-conforming and require this kind of special permit for any sort of modification; it makes more decisions somewhat discretionary actions of the ZBA when they should be by-right uses of the landowners.
I vaguely recall that Ideal Engine tore down a neighboring house on Dover Street a few years ago. I guess they're finally ready to expand into that lot.
