I haven't heard much about it so just wanted to let the community know that a winter farmer's market is starting this weekend at the Armory on Highland Ave.  According to the city website it will take place on Saturdays from 10am - 2pm, January 8th - March 26th.

I only found out about it because I noticed a no parking sign as I walked past the Armory this morning.

I found out about it from the Armory website awhile ago, after hearing murmurs here and around about the potential for a Winter Farmer's Market at the Armory.

(For those who were wondering, which I am sure is no one, I decided not to go with an Enterprise Farm winter share, as it sounded like they'd be at the local farmer's market, and that way I'd only get what I needed. I *just* finished the last of my frozen string beans from my summer share from Silverbrook!)

I'm looking forward to it!

I hope the fair amount of local media coverage about the market lately will result in a good turnout. A list of participating vendors can found here:

I've seen it on facebook from multiple sources, and figured it was getting reasonable coverage - am I just more plugged into local farm goodies?

So where do we park?

On Facebook they're asking people to park in the overflow lot at 112 Central Street.

No problem. I wasn't being snarky. ;) I have a compulsion to cite my sources.

That doesn't work so well if you're carrying large amounts of groceries. Why not just park on Highland Ave? It's a 2-hour zone.

Yeah it's ok, I'm blocked from farcebook at work, and I'm also not a member, but I did open the link when I got home and realized I could see all the necessary info even as a non-member. And after all that I decided to take the 88 bus instead of driving. Thanks!!

This was very crowded and busy. I wonder how much food was left to sell by closing time. At noon the fish vendor already was sold out of everything.

One of the vendors had unpasteurized apple cider for sale, which I greatly appreciated. I never saw this at the Davis Square market all season.

Hi! Sorry to necro this thread, but I was searching for Davis Square reviews of Silverbrook Farms' CSA and this comment popped up. Would you be able to tell me if you recommend using them or not? (My housemate's office has some sort of corporate share system set up with them, and we're trying to decide if we want to join this year.) Thank you!

Hey! I loved my Silverbrook share, feel free to pm me for specific q's, or just ask about specifics in this thread. Here're a few more details:
Early parts of share might be sparse but they make up for it with interesting jams/jellies, and eggs/farmer's cheese from their partners (lavender cheese is mighty tasty, who knew) if you don't want/don't consume these items this aspect of the share mightn't be to your liking.
My vegetable philosophy is, anything tastes good with salt/pepper/oil. So, I found use for things like the bulb of the kohlrabi. (there was kohlrabi pretty much every week iirc at least through summer) There were also lots of string beans, as I mentioned I wound up freezing a bunch. The variety is pretty good in general. There were delicious rich lettuces, though memory doesn't serve if they came every week. I think there were cukes every week, which I don't eat, but shared with friends. Still had so much left over, including cooking for others. Tomatoes occasionally, and lots of fresh basil. Fall transitioned to squashes etc. There was definitely "stuff" through the end of the share term which I think was October.
