Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with snow emergency information for Thursday, January 13th. The City will lift its snow emergency regulations effective at 6:00 p.m. this evening. Residents who had parked in municipal or school lots during the snow emergency must move their cars by 8:00 p.m. Cars still parked in city lots at that time may be subject to ticketing and towing.

Residents are reminded that furniture, barrels, or other items left in parking spots will be treated as trash and disposed of. Sidewalks and walkways must be shoveled today, or property owners may be subject to fines, in accordance with City ordinance.

I'd be happy if Waste Management in Medford would just treat the stuff in my *trash can* as trash.

I'd be interested to see what happens if someone put a broken TV out there. . . it's a win-win situation!

Does this mean that parking is still prohibited on even sides until 6pm? I'd like to move my car back while it's still light out...

I'll believe it when I see it...

[new resident here]

do you know if they're actually planning to plow the even sides? the even side of my (small) street is nothing but a huge mountain of snow (or so i hear - i've been hiding out in the burbs since the storm). i'm trying to decide if i should even bother coming back in tonight - if everyone's going to be moving their cars to nonexistent parking spots at the same time, then hanging out with my parents for one more night doesn't sound so bad.

They're not going to push all the snow onto the sidewalk, if that's what you're asking. The real problem is that there's nowhere for it to go.

People will still park in front of those mounds and the streets will just get narrower. That's Somerville in winter. Sorry!

that's what i figured, but i was hoping against hope that they might actually *remove* it somehow. these past few winters in montreal have put all kinds of silly ideas in my head!

Any idea what it means that cars in the lots a 8 may be subject to ticketing. The meters are off after 8 so are the lots somehow closed tonight or what?

This refers to municipal lots that are normally not open to the public, but are during snow emergencies.

Aha. That makes sense. Thanks.
