Tufts Film Series Returns for the Spring Semester

All films are free and, yes, the films are open to anyone who wants to go -- as long as Tufts students get first shot at seats (haven't seen it happen in the 7+ years I've been attending).

Films are held in Barnum 008 on the Academic Quad.

Thanks for posting this. So, for the uninitiated, what time are the films shown, and how do we find Barnum 008?
And what does it mean that two films are listed for three dates: do they show the same double feature every night for three nights?

I didn't want to fill up the initial post with all the gory details, but here's how it works.

TFS will generally show 3 films a weekend on a rotating schedule. The general pattern is:

* Film 1: Friday 7 pm, Saturday 9:30 pm & midnight
* Film 2: Friday 9:30 pm, Saturday 7 pm, Sunday 8 pm

I have the updated Boston Free Films calendar here: http://tinyurl.com/2z8spc and I try to keep it updated as I see changes. I'm on their internal mailing list, so I usually have good info. Despite all the communication sources, it's hard to get last minute updates from this group and there is a the film is different than advertised.

Warnings about the series for the uninitiated:
* Students are showing these films, mostly 35 mm, meaning they make mistakes, have technical difficulties (sound, projection, alignment, lighting) or occasionally not show up. Sometimes, they can't show the film because of these issues (someone put the film on the reel backwards for example or they can't find the key to the booth).
* Last minute schedule changes are possible (this weekend, they have announced 3 different schedules on different sources)
* Classic movies will probably be shown from a DVD.
* Expect a few students to turn on a phone to check texts during the movie.

Last-minute updates can be found on our website, Twitter, Facebook, and TuftsLife. The semester just started and a lot of the executive board members are new (including me), so we're still getting the kinks ironed out! :)

Sorry for any confusion regarding the inconsistent times! The times have all been updated.

Zombieland will be shown Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

28 Days Later will be shown Friday at 9:30 p.m., Saturday at midnight, and Sunday at 8 p.m.

Sometimes movies are shown on DVDs when the film reels don't arrive in time or if available reels are incompatible with our projectors. 28 Days Later will be shown on a DVD this weekend.

Thanks and welcome. I run the Boston Free Films list and am always happy to publicize your films. We appreciate consistency as it's hard to know what is really showing. We really hope that any notices of really last minute changes can be sent out via Twitter, Facebook or your web pages. I know I have arrived at a screening to be told that it isn't happening for some reason or another or that the film has changed.

You are welcome to post in the Davis_Square community as well as in freescreenings (http://community.livejournal.com/freescreenings/). I only mention TFS once a semester in Davis Sq., so most of the interest in in freescreenings.

The front doors of the building are locked on weekends, so go to the back entrance. There are doors on both sides, so check both if one is locked. Once you come into the back, you'll see signs for 008, including a white board with show times.
