Does anyone know of a place in or around Somercamb where I can find some fresh mozzarella curd?

There is no shortage of fresh mozzarella around, but I like to make my own at home and have been on the hunt for some curd.

Places I have tried with no luck:
- Dave's
- Capone
- Pemberton

You can make the curd from scratch at home. I haven't done it yet, so I don't know what the best method/recipe might be, but here's (http://www.instructables.com/id/Great-Mozzarella-Cheese) an example of one. Basically, you make the curd yourself by adding citric acid to milk.

This was going to be my suggestion as well. And that site has relatively good instructions.

If I'm not mistaken, you can actually just use a hunk of fresh moz to make more, but I forget the exact process.

Well, there's that old trick of cutting the moz into triangles of just the right shape, and then reassembling them so that they form a larger hunk of moz, and then repeating...

I don't think the Axiom of Choice has been accepted for mozzarella.

Chowhound suggests (1) making your own and (2) checking Monica's Market in the north end. Have you tried contacting Fiore di Nonno?

I don't know anything about buying mozzarella curd. I've made awesome mozzarella using Ricki's kit. I believe you can pick one up at the Modern Homebrew Emporium
2304 Massachusetts Ave
Cambridge, MA 02140

Get the kit and some milk and you are good to go.

This. Just be sure the milk isn't ultra-pasteurized. So, steer clear of anything from the grocery store. You can get Shaw Farm from the Dairy Bar or Highlawn from Daves. Both are good.

As a lover of poutine, I can tell you that it's notoriously difficult to find any kind of cheese curds in Massachusetts, unless they're purchased wholesale by a restaurant and used in their dishes. Even then, they're not always "real" curds.

I know you can mail order several wonderful varieties from farms in Vermont and New Hampshire.

the dairy bar in Davis Square (connected to kickass cupcakes) sometimes sells it. (And during the summer you can get it from the Davis farmers market.)

How about Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge? They have a lot of specialty cheese, or they might be able to point you somewhere else useful.
