This was just e-mailed out (bummer):

Hello all,

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I write this to you today, but Black & Blues will be closing its doors on February 28th. We gave it our all, but sadly, we have to go...

Thank you for all of your support. Your smiling faces will be missed.

I just got the email as well. Sad face! I liked that place, though I'll admit that I could only ever afford to shop their sale rack. Anyway, I hope something as cool replaces it.

Sorry to see it go. She sounds devastated.

I'm a guy, so this has no effect on me one way or the other. I just wanted to post to say "Let the pointless posts about 'I hope it's replaced with a _______ shop' BEGIN!"

That block is sadly bereft of burritos.

Junk shops are our new burritos. I don't want any more junk shops.

Hah! You beat my first such post by about 20 seconds. At least there's precedent for what I'm suggesting though!

I vote for a Boston branch of Antonios Pizza by the slice (from Amherst)

Man, if an Antonio's moved up the street from me right after I move across the country, I will be livid.

I already try to stop at the Providence location every time I'm in down that way, but it's just not the same.

Is another Dave's expansion in the works?

I look forward to the day when that whole block is "Dave's Fresh Pasta"!

That could be dangerous to both my wallet and my waistline! Mmm. Pasta.

: ( Unfortunately, like another commenter, I could never afford to shop anything but the sales rack, but I loved that place.

Maybe Aeropostle will expand from their Harvard location to begin the final Camberville gentrification process? Or is it Abercrombie? Or does it even matter?

The beginning of the end. That's what it is. Well, it was when PLRG left. Now Black and Blues. Cibilene will fall...and that'll be that!

Or Anthropologie. Which I actually like a lot, but their stuff is crazy expensive.

But awesome. I have an Anthropologie problem, it's bad enough that they moved to Harvard.

If I'm gonna support a crazy expensive store, I'd rather it be one of a kind. I don't know why I would. It's just me.

It *is*???

... Yeah, Google seems to think it's right there in the strip mall. WHY has that never registered in my brain? Do my eyes just slide right over it??

one time they gave me a free bluetooth headset because they tossed it in my bag. I returned it, and the guy was all "m'eh." Damn me and my morals, Shack!

Many years ago in the early, early days of the interwebs, there was a website called "Bianca's smut shack." It was a comical, early form of a blog. Radio Shack sued her over the use of the word "shack" and I believe they won. I found that appalling.

I seem to recall from the misty past that there was once a Radio Shak in Davis - where Buffalo Exchange is now.

Ron pointed out that there's a Radioshack in Porter Square. I change my vote from "Radioshack" to "Dollar a pound tall men's clothing, size 32 waist">

I would really like a hardware store in Davis; unless there's already one there that I don't know about. Porter Square doesn't count as it's not Davis and thus not convenient when I'm running quick errands before grabbing the #90 bus home.

Date: 2011-02-07 08:06 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] ron_newman
It's hard for me to see how two independent hardware stores could survive a 10 minute walk from each other. From Tags Hardware, I'd walk up Hancock Street to Highland Ave. to get the 90 (or 88) bus.

Porter square is just not that convenient for Davis area people. It's a significant chunk of time, especially when you're often balancing errands that take place between the brief window between the end of work and whatever you're up to that night.

That's really too bad... Davis is really lacking for places to buy NEW clothing. I guess that little boutique (Suneri?) near there. Wish there was somewhere semi-affordable to go, though.

And Porter is no better, with the departure of both the Gap and Burlington Coat Factory.

Aww, bummer. It's been closed an awful lot lately, even unable to keep fully stocked. I've found some great things there over the years.

I'm sad to see a locally-owned business close, but to be fair, it didn't exactly cater to a broad clientele. Clothes for young slender rich women, really, which might have made more sense closer to Tufts or in a more parking-accessible area, rather than in a neighborhood, foot-traffic location. Also Suneri seems to have cornered that market a little more, not that there's anything for me there either.
