Is anyone else having problems getting timely oil deliveries from Fast Track Oil? We ordered early Friday morning & were told they would deliver on Saturday. Saturday came & went & no oil. I called Sunday morning to see if we were accidentally missed, really didn't get an answer they just took our info again. Sunday came & went & no oil. Called this morning because now we're getting very low & I'm worried we'll run out & again just took our info & said they'd, "Let the office know." We've always received our deliveries within 24 hours after placing a call before, never had this problem in the past. Now today is a holiday & I don't even know if they are making deliveries :(

May not help you now, but if you get tired of Fast Track, I've had really good experiences with Atlas Glen-Mor.

Sorry Fast Track is giving you trouble.

i'm no help except to say i'll never live in a place with oil heat ever again. i fell into a situation where this was the case a couple of years ago and it was a nightmare all the time. esp if you run out, even if it's not your fault, it costs even more because then they have to prime the tank or something before they refill it? i would be on them and/or calling a new company that can show up ASAP.

FWIW, one normally just needs to bleed the fuel line. It's Google-able and unchallenging.

(I learned this when I was poor, ran out of oil, and the oil company wanted something like $100 to do it.)

Other options

Something else to consider for the future....
I had a plan with my oil company that I would pay a fixed monthly fee year round (say $100/month) and they would come regularly to fill the tank based on my monthly usage history. At the end of the service contract year we would settle up. If I had overpaid them I could get a check from them or roll the money into the next years contract. If I owed them money, I would send them a check for the difference. I think every year I ended up overpaying by about $100 so I just rolled it into my next contract. This way I avoided running out of oil and also getting insanely high bills in February.

You can also lock in rates in the fall as well -- I've had mixed experiences with this. But then you don't need to worry about them waiting to fill your tank until the price goes up.

just curious if you finally got things straightened out. (i hope so!)

i totally hear you - we were often given the runaround and on top of that i had a roommate who would randomly switch companies without consulting me, not ask for money and then be late, etc. i will never, ever do it again. total dealbreaker for me.

I don't know how you feel about messing around with your furnace, but if you do run out, you can put diesel fuel into it. I have seen my father do this several times (we've always managed to run out on holidays, so he'd be out at the gas station picking up some diesel). He also installed our furnace, though, so I don't know how complicated adding fuel to it is. Good luck though!
