If anyone is looking for a farm-share for this coming summer, Parker Farm has a few dozen shares available. I've had great luck with them in the past, and Steve's a good guy. Their Davis pickup is about halfway between Davis and Porter. You can find it at www.parkerfarm.org.

Beat me to it....I second this!

I would love to do this but whenever I see these posts with cost, it seems a bit much for us to outlay (though I know it's worth it...). Is there an option to pay at each pickup or is it typically all at once?

You pay up front for the season, it's true. However, our large share replaced a $200/month grocery bill. We love the influx of veggies from Parker Farm! :)

Ah. And my grocery bill isn't high at all. That's a bummer. : (

A large share is enough for up to 4 households to share. A small (which generally gets everything a large gets) can easily be split by 2. Then you can also share the picking up.

Thanks! I actually found a perfectly fitting deal through Boston Organics at the recommendation of another friend. If that doesn't work out, I may revisit the CSA next year. : )

OMG, I love Boston Organics. I switch to small 100% fruit in the summer. BO (heehee) doesn't do all local and I figure much fruit is harder to grow here and I have kids that like fruit, so I switch it around for the growing season.

Yeah, I recognized that about them (not all local - and lulz to BO, BTW!) - but most of their seasonal veggies are, so it seemed a better deal to try for us. I got the 39$ half-andhalf box, every other week.

And the one thing I'm guaranteed is that between me and my daughter, the fruit will be gone! XD

Glad to hear another positive about BO (sprofle) though. : )

Speaking as a big Parker fan, I'd suggest writing him to ask about a payment plan. Can't hurt.

Thanks. I actually shop at a military grocery, so the brunt of my bill is in milk and meats. Veg and fruit are usually local in the summer and dirt cheap (I go into sticker shock even at DeMoulas)...but I just love the fresh from the farm idea.

Maybe next year. : )

What's a military grocery? Is that a place where you get in a food fight with soup nazis or something?
