This is a bit of an odd question, but [livejournal.com profile] davis_square is pretty good with those, so I thought I'd ask. If I had a hypothetical box of books to donate, some of which are of an adult (erotica and philosophy/sexual ethics) nature, where could I take them that they wouldn't be either inappropriate, unsuitable, or both?

I don't want any money for them, and a lot of the erotica is in fact brand-new (long story), and all of it is in good shape, so it'd be a shame if it just ended up in a recycling bin.

You could give them away here or on Somerville Freecycle or Boston Craigslist. Are you willing to itemize them and give them to multiple recipients?

If they are queer, I'd call one of the local university lgbta orgs. Someone donated a bunch of books when I was in college.

I think I know someone who might want them. Can I pick them up?

Mob New England (http://www.mobnewengland.org/home.html) has a kinky lending library that's run by a few of the members. You might get in touch with the folks who run it and ask if your books would be a good fit. The email address for general inquiries is: info[at]mobnewengland[dot]org

They will then process for a few weeks to months about how to deal with the books that aren't genderqueer friendly.

If the books were specifically transphobic, then yeah- they wouldn't take them. I don't know why that would be a problem to anyone but people who are transphobic. The library itself is only run by one or two Mob members. There's never been any "processing" by the group as a whole [or even just the committee] that I know of in regards to what books should and shouldn't be allowed in the collection. The only time the lending library is even mentioned is to remind members that we have access to it.

Since there are no real woodsy woods around, I think you're supposed to leave them by the railroad tracks.

I know that the http://www.prisonbookprogram.org/ is always looking for queer and educational books for their program. When I have done book exchanges in the past they got all of the softcovers that were left over and within their guidelines.
