From Boston Restaurants:

"An Indian and Nepali restaurant is planning to open in the Teele Square section of Somerville, moving into the space where a Thai restaurant used to be.

A check on the space over the weekend confirms that Masala is going to be opening on Broadway in the heart of the square, taking over the spot that was home to Tip Top Thai for about six years before it closed in the summer of 2010. Once it opens, Masala will join several other restaurants in the immediate area that feature Nepali cuisine, including House of Tibet in Teele Square, Yak and Yeti in Ball Square, Martsa on Elm in Davis Square, Kathmandu Spice in East Arlington, and Annapurna in North Cambridge.

Currently, there is no specific opening date for Masala; as soon as we get more information on when it might open, we will post an update here.

The address for this upcoming restaurant in Teele Square will be: Masala, 1127 Broadway, Somerville, MA, 02144."

Oh yay. I was so hoping someone would open an Indian restaurant in Davis Square. Now if we could just get a place that made burritos...

Teele Square isn't Davis.

(that's addressed to talonvaki, not to the original poster. Teele Square is always on-topic here.)

The name of this restaurant caused some confusion by both the city and DSLJ participants last November.

They have a pretty sign. I hope they have pretty food, and also that the "and Nepali" is not just a side note. (Yak and Yeti is kind of on the fence for me - their buffet reads almost straight "Indian food" but there are some very different flavors and seasonings in their a la carte menu, and oh those addictive nepali crunchy spiced bean things.)

PS, "Boston Restaurants"... Tibet and Nepal aren't the same place and don't have the same food. Or maybe I'm the idiot and haven't noticed that there are a few Nepali things on Martsa's menu or House of Tibet's menu? But I don't think so. Martsa on Elm is nothing at all like Yak and Yeti.
