does anyone have any idea where i can find gefilte fishlets? (they're like the cocktail weiners of the gefilte fish world, if you're unfamiliar.) shaw's doesn't have them and neither does the whole foods in fresh pond, and aside from the stop&shop off 28 i'm not sure where else to look. (can you tell i'm very brand loyal in terms of grocery stores?) i have a car so i'm not limited to greater davis.

A year or two ago I discovered that the Stop and Shop in Lexington has a much better selection of Passover foods than any of the more local grocery stores. You might want to try there. (Or perhaps call first?)

(That was also the grocery store where i finally found schmaltz, after trying 7 or 8 stores in Cambridge, Somerville and Arlington...

Hmm, maybe I'll call them and see if they have the frozen kind. Thank you!

We save our schmaltz in the freezer when we make roast chicken.

I'm looking for the frozen kind

I'd try Lexington or Belmont. If you want to drive a bit further, Newton or Brookline. All those towns have sizable Jewish populations.

Not to carp on the subject - while you're at it, if you see the gefilte fish that is sold frozen, that you have to cook yourself at home, just for the halibut, can you bring me back one or two? I'll reimburse you and give you a little present besides. Or just tell me where you found it. I have a sinking feeling that I'll have to go to Brookline, and I don't know if I want it that badly.

The only place I've reliably seen it is in Brookline at the Butcherie.

I just called the Stop & Shop in Malden (after Googling a bit for ideas) and they do have it! So I'm off to get it. I'll look and see if they have the little jarred kind too, if I remember.

You don't have to go to Brookline! Go to the Stop-and-Shop in Malden and look in the Kosher foods section.

I found them! They DO have them at the Malden Stop & Shop on Rt. 60. I would have got you a jar, but they were $9, and if you didn't show up for some reason, well, they weren't going to get eaten. I also got my frozen gefilte. :-)

I know! I re-read the sign a couple of times to make sure I got it right. I don't understand why it's so expensive.

I was at the Star Market in Quincy Center tonight, and found them. Also posted proof to my twitpic feed (mostly so I'd remember to post about them when I got home ;-) ).

(they were $6, I think? lots of the other gefilte was on sale for $3.89. I love this time of year, when the Manischewitz Chocolate Macaroons are 2/$5)

Maybe market basket? They always have a great random selection of stuff.

Market Basket had no gefilte fish of any kind when I visited this morning. Their Passover selection is pretty limited (or perhaps depleted).

You could just cut up regular-sized gefilte fish patties into cocktail-sized pieces. I realize it wouldn't be quite the same but it would be pretty close.

(also, not that you asked, but I'll give my unsolicited opinion that Rokeach "Old Vienna" gefilte fish is far far better than Manischewitz)

There was quite a large selection of Passover food at the Star Market in Dedham near 95. i believe they had frozen gefilte fish as well.
