 Happy Spring everyone!

Now that the ground has thawed and my first bunch of flowers has emerged I'm starting to fantasize about getting outside and getting my hands dirty.  Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about how to keep a plant- any plant- alive.  And this would be my first attempt at gardening outside of the deep south where it is impossible to kill anything.

What are some favorite nurseries in the area?  Do any of them have n00b gardening classes?  Preferably ones that start with "This is dirt.  It's made up of silica and various organic compounds.  This is a shovel.  Shove it into the ground."

Thanks a lot!

I recommend The Garden Primer: http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Primer-Second-Barbara-Damrosch/dp/0761122753/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303742586&sr=8-1.

Pemberton's on Mass Ave is where I get my sprouts. I just started container vegetable gardening last summer, with some nice successes. I taught myself, really just by googling instructions for "how to grow peas," "how to grow peppers," etc.

Pemberton's is my go to plant nursery and not just because they're down the street from me. Lovely selection, employees are knowledgeable, and all their plants look great.
