Hi All,
I have 5 or 6 bags of clothes/shoes to be donated ASAP (after business hours.) Do you know where there are donation bins in the Camber-ville area?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I suggest going to Goodwill during hours that they are open. (Please don't leave stuff in front of the store when they are closed.)

Second Chances has donation bins at the River Street and Prospect Street Whole Foods stores in Cambridge, and will also have a clothing drive at the Somerville Community Growing Center on June 22.

Please do not put anything in a Planet Aid bin because they are a fraudulent scam and not a charity.

There is a Red Cross bin on Mass Ave at the gas station about a block from the Porter Exchange (my usual default but mainly because I live nearby).

there's only one gas station near Porter Exchange on Mass Ave (toward Harvard, about a 2 minute walk). The bin is easy to see--i think it's at Garfield St

Thanks. I walked by it today and saw the Red Cross bin. It's a Gulf station.

Usually the Somerville Homeless Coalition has boxes marked for clothing donations. They're at 1 Davis Square (the door on the side of the CVS building next to the BSC entrance). You can give them a call at 617-623-6111 or TTY: 617-776-0750 and get more information.

where are their boxes? I've never seen one around their office building.

When I was a client in 2008, they kept boxes in their lobby. This may be the kind of thing where the OP and other interested parties should call the SHC in advance to see about clothing donations. Sorry if this isn't all that helpful.

And their website is http://somervillehomelesscoalition.org/ . They have a list of items that they'd like donated, but no mention of used clothing. I agree that the OP should call them and ask.

You should probably edit your post to include your 24-hour/late-night stipulation, just so that people see your after-business-hours requirement before they comment.

My suggestion was going to be Goodwill and/or taking them to Buffalo Exchange (who would pay you for any clothes they felt would sell, and they have bins inside for clothes they won't sell that they'll take down to a clothing donation place for you. (I forget if it's Goodwill or SHC or Second Chances that they donate to.) But given that both of these places close at 7 pm, that may not be late enough for your needs.

The one at Whole Foods on Prospect Street is in an outdoor parking lot, so it's always open.

Zoots in Porter Square takes clothing and shoes for Goodwill. I don't know their hours, but they can give you a tax receipt, and a donation bin cannot.

It's a little bit out of the way, but there is a Society of St. Vincent de Paul clothing donation box behind St Joseph in Medford. (The church address is 114 High street, but the boxes are out back, so more easily accessed from Mystic Valley Parkway.) Not really on mass transit, but only a couple miles from Davis by car, and you can donate any time.

The shelter at the former methodist church on College takes almost everything; I don't know how late they're open but you can ask: (617) 623-6111
