gingicat: deep purple lilacs, some buds, some open (Default)
[personal profile] gingicat posting in [community profile] davis_square
Any pointers to where some might be popping out soon? Thanks!

Edit: Yes, I know all about Lilac Sunday at the Arboretum. I was wondering if anyone knows of a particular lilac bush on a particular corner or whatever that I can monitor till it starts putting out those tiny tiny buds.

They're usually right around Mother's Day. The MFA has a garden devoted to them.

The Arnold Arboretum has tons of them. They have a whole celebration called Lilac Sunday on Mother's Day every year. It includes morris dancing, and is therefore awesome.

There's a giant one on Highland Ave just a few doors down from the antique/consignment shop. It's got southern exposure, so tends to bloom pretty early.

There are a couple of gorgeous ones on Meacham Street (or at least there were in years past and I assume they are still there), in different colors even. When I walked that way to get to the T, it was one of my favorite spots to pass.

Meacham Street is on Winter Hill; do you mean Meacham Road near Davis Square?

Corner of Acadia Park & Somerville Ave. Haven't seen them yet this year, but last year they were delish.

There's one at I think..Josephine and Kidder? It's on a corner with a blue house and lilac trim exactly the color of the flowers.

Yeah, there are lots of great purple flowers in that garden.

There's one on Chester Street about a block from Redbones... if this Google Street View link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=20+chester+st,+somerville+ma&aq=&sll=37.926868,-95.712891&sspn=36.666809,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=39+Chester+St,+Somerville,+Middlesex,+Massachusetts+02140&ll=42.394396,-71.123262&spn=0.002211,0.004823&z=18&layer=c&cbll=42.394458,-71.123169&panoid=QsuHlENDLNK3zDCkIT1FBQ&cbp=12,349.54,,0,0) works, the bush should be right in the middle of the picture, near 39ish Chester St.

Try the southwest corner of Orchard and Day Streets -- right now.
