td bank: a story
May. 15th, 2011 08:51 ami was in fresh pond anyway, so i took a bucket of change to the td bank there.
they do have a (very cute, animated) coin counter. it is free if you have an account, 6% otherwise. i asked about accounts, and was able to open a "savings club" account (no fee, no minimum balance) right away with the help of a nice person named moe.
i tossed all my coins in the counter. i was expecting them to put them into the savings account, but they just handed me bills (and three quarters :) apparently if i go back i just have to tell the teller i have an account, presumably now they can look me up by name.
i guessed my total within $1.99, so i also got a prize! (a deck of cards, to be precise.)
thanks to everyone for your great suggestions, hope my anecdote proves informative to others :)
