I was running on North Street today and I noticed a clothing and shoe donation bin near the intersection with Broadway. Does anyone know what organization collects at this bin? The location is very convenient to me but I want to know just where my items would be going before I dump stuff in there.

(And if no one here knows I'll have to take a picture with my camera next time so I remember what the bin says when I get home.)

does it really have no identifying marking on it at all?

If I recall correctly, I believe there's a Big Brother Big Sister drop-off box in that area.

but this isn't it, at least if we're talking about the box on the east side of North Street just north of Broadway. I took a couple of cellphone photos of it and will report more in another comment shortly.

Oh, in that case you're right -- I thought there was a drop-off bin actually on Broadway around the 1200s

I biked by it today and took a couple of cellphone photos. The box belongs to "AFAB Recycling", a company I've never heard of before. There is no web address on the box, and I cannot find one online, though I do find plenty of news articles about them. The box has a phone number on it, 203-591-9270.

Area code 203 is the New York part of Connecticut, so this is not an organization with any local Boston connection at all.

My suggestion -- skip this box and bring your stuff to the Goodwill store in Davis Square instead. You'll be helping a real local charity, and your friends and neighbors will be able to buy what you leave there.

Wow, those articles certainly suggest that those folks are bad news.

You're welcome. Please bring donations to Goodwill only during hours they are open, otherwise you will be contributing to a mess that they have to clean up every morning. The Davis Square store closes at 7 pm.

There is a Red Cross clothes collection box on the northbound side of Mass. Ave. a few blocks south of Porter Square, in front of a Gulf gas station.
