Somerville's annual Memorial Day parade kicks off Sunday at 1 pm at City Hall, proceeding down Highland Ave to Davis Square, up Holland Street to Teele Square, then west on Broadway to the Veterans' Cemetery behind Johnnie's Foodmaster.

From the city press release: "The parade will include 22 marching bands, along with a wide range of community and school groups, specialty unit from the Aleppo Shriners, and local veterans', fire, and police outfits from surrounding cities and towns."

If you live along the parade route, or on any of the side streets near the parade start or end, please take note of the parking restrictions. I have no idea how the MBTA plans to re-route the 87, 88, and 89 buses.

That's a very long-sounding parade route. The poor marching bands. I'd be half dead if I had to march that while playing a musical instrument and wearing a stiff uniform.

(Granted, my userpic illustrates my current fitness level.)

No bike parking along parade route either!!

In the past the city also removes all bicycles along the parade route too.

I'm not aware of that being posted any where or bicycles being taged in anyway.

As silly as it is, I will miss it this year. I like the boom boom stuff, from the drums to the muskets (as long as they don't shoot anything, I like them, anyway. :-)

Happy parading (and not getting your bike "towed").
