Looking for some advice from all you wise people out there. We have a large couch--around 7' long- that we're hoping to just put out with the trash tomorrow morning (we've tried for a few weeks now to give it away or donate it but there have been no takers and we're moving on Wednesday). The couch is in good shape so we hate to have to do this but unfortunately don't have too many choices right now.

We called 311 to try to find out if it was too large for pick-up (no info on the website on size, it just says 2 furniture items per week) and the person we spoke to was unsure and thought they might charge us for it. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know if there are size limits for furniture put out with the trash?

Thanks as always!

It is my personal guess that the Somerville DPW is prepared to handle all manner of disastrous trash piles on the first day of June.

Worst case your landlord gets a $50 fine.

Yeah, we got one for putting some stuff out Sunday night for our Tuesday morning pickup because I was hoping people would trashpick it over the weekend.

No, my "wow" was at someone suggesting it's totes cool to stick someone else with a bill for something preventable.

I assume that given how conscientious they're being they'll pay the landlord back the $50. I'm not sure they could get someone to haul it away at this point for much less than that.

Have you tried the "Free" section of Craigslist's "For Sale" listings? People there will take anything.

I might be interested but it depends on where in Davis you are located. I'm near Porter and don't think that I could transport it if you're too far away.
Thanks

Does it have wheels, by chance? I'm like around the corner from you on powder house and I need a couch. I don't have a van but I'm not above just pushing it down the street with a friend.

I've put out a couch that big. DPW took it away. (if you watch this space, DPW: thanks! I love your awesomely comprehensive trash-pickup-policies.)

I've put a couch out to trash that was that large, and they took it no problem.
