Hi there,

Putting on my personal assisting hat, and asking for help for a local Davis Square Musician.

She was recently filmed in a performance, and received the document in ".vob" format for vlc media player. We wondered if there is any way to open this file on a mac or pc, as well as if there's a possibility to edit it in this form. If not, suggestions on how to do so.

We're also possibly looking for help with editing film. Please let us know you're interested, and your background.

Much appreciated!

media player classic can probably play that file for you. that is very strange that someone sent you a VOB though, as that's the direct rip of a DVD file that hasn't been converted.

you have to have that converted into a file that can be edited, a VOB (AFAIK in my limited knowledge) cannot be edited in that format. i would get that file to a video editor asap.

Back when I did that kind of thing, I had good luck with VirtualDub which is free and for Windows. No idea if it supports vob though. Try Handbrake if you need to convert to another format.

What if you download VLC and then convert from there- it's great software

MPEG Streamclip will also work, if you have access to that.

I would also love to help out with editing, if you're still looking for people on that front! I'm a recent graduate with quite a few years of editing experience, mostly nonfiction, currently employed doing video work for a Boston nonprofit. I'd be happy to send you some samples or whatever would be helpful.

VOB files can totally be handled by VLC, and the program has many options to convert this file to something more readable by a video editor.
