Thanks to all who responded to my original post about discounted Women’s Basics classes at IMPACT Boston. Several people who got in touch with me asked about our Men’s and LGBTQ self-defense classes, so now that they’re on the schedule I wanted to give you the scoop.
IMPACT Boston is a non-profit organization providing realistic personal safety training that gives students the skills to respond appropriately to threatening situations. IMPACT classes are designed to teach self-protection strategies that are effective regardless of size, age, or fitness level.
You may have heard of IMPACT by its former name "Model Mugging." It's unique in that it provides a rare opportunity to practice self-defense using full force (one of the instructors wears a protective suit.) I would add that this makes it additionally interesting for people who have studied martial arts or attended other, less involved, self-defense programs, like RAD.
Men’s Basics will take place July 8th thru 10th in Malden.
Friday July 8th: 6p-10:00p
Saturday July 9th: 10a-7p
Sunday July 10: 11a-4p
Guys, I bet you’ve thought deeply about what is worth defending and how you might respond to confrontations of different kinds. You’d be amazed at the variety of opinions and experiences you hear about when you have time to discuss it. The physical techniques are effective for anyone against any aggressor, and it’s fascinating to learn why. Moreover gaining physical skills while also having learned the patterns of escalation will assist your sense of assertiveness and overall confidence.
As always we offer scholarships (a name-your-own-price option) and no-interest payment plans.
LGBTQ men are welcome in the Men’s class, of course, but it looks like our LGBTQ class will be either the weekend of Sept 9-12 or Sept 16-18 and likely at Fenway Health in Boston. Send your contact info if you want me to let you know directly when it's finalized.
We’ll also have more Women's Basics classes, once a month from now through Sept.
If you're interested (or want me to send you a scholarship application,) please email me at registration@impactboston.org, call 781-321-3900, visit www.impactboston.org, or leave comments!
