Davis Square Contra Dance this evening

Another informal outdoor contra dance in the main Davis Square plaza, this evening 8-10pm. Everyone is welcome to dance. If you have an instrument, you can bring it and join the band. If you know how to call, call some dances. Weather report for this evening looks clear.

Does the band leader bring music? Any idea how that works?

When Jeff plans one of these, first thing he does is ping a few musicians he knows to make sure they have the minimum band to carry the evening. So I presume he's already got that much. Other musicians are welcome to join in, ad-hoc - just show up. You can play the music they know, or bring suggestions of your own. Last time they did this, earlier this summer, there were about 7 musicians most of the evening, but last year IIRC there was one time when there were only 3.

Can I get a list of the music that usually gets called? I know Over the Waterfall, but most of the rest of the stuff I know isn't really dance music. I'm fairly new to the hammered dulcimer, and I'd love to give it a try.

Jeff's the one who can answer that. If you have Facebook, comment there, and he'll probably respond. If not, I'll poke him and get him to look here, though I don't think he uses LJ usually.

No worries - I hopped a bus and arrived just in time for the Over the Waterfall set . Next time, I'll have the dulcimer tuned up proper and give it a go.

Also, I got Jeff's email address and he said he'd get me a list of songs.
