Boston Opera Collaborative is proud to present Verdi's comic masterpiece Falstaff.  Please join BOC at Somerville Theatre in Davis Square on July 15-17 and July 22-24, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m., for a performance you will not soon forget!

In light of the glorious decadence and irrepressible excess of this ensemble show, stage director Heidi Lauren Duke and music director Mischa Santora have updated the piece to 1973 Italian-America; an ode to mafia dons, boogie nights, and the dusk of Aquarius! Scheming women, mis-matched lovers, and drunken debauchery will abound!

Ticket prices:
$25 - general
$15 - student (with valid ID) /senior (65+)
Free - children under 10 years old
Tickets can be purchased at Somerville Theatre box office between 4-8pm or online at Click here for online purchases For more information about events at Somerville Theatre, please visit their events page here. Somerville Theatre is handicap accessible and air conditioned.

The theatre will have to switch the mainstage from opera tonight to modern dance tomorrow afternoon (for ArtBeat) and then back to opera tomorrow night. That should be fun!

I really wish modern directors didn't feel the need to "update" period operas or try to make them "cool". I like Verdi's Falstaff the way it is.

I agree. Ugh.

Though I'd be willing to overlook it if they started setting Nixon in China in the Yuan Dynasty.

I ordinarily would agree - I'm no fan of bizarre konzepts. However, I saw Falstaff last night, and it was really fantastic. It's more along the lines of "delightful update to time period" than "horrific and painful reimagining." (Full disclosure - I am a member of BOC, but am not in this show.) Consider giving it a try; all of the singers were great, as was the orchestra. And such a treat to see an opera at the Somerville Theatre!

Agree strongly with this! The opera was lovely and the the 70s theme worked fairly well.

Agree also, and hope BOC will come back to our theatre next season.

(But isn't Falstaff supposed to be fat? He really wasn't, at least not last night.)
