I think this will be my last for sale post for a bit (I hope). I'm pretty sure that Somerville allows this size trash can, as I have noticed buildings on St. James street with bins this size when I pick up my farm share.

This is taken directly from the craiglist post we put up before (which has since expired). Here is the link to the picture:

I have two 64 gallon Toter brand wheeled trash cans for sale. These are VERY nice trash cans, top of the line from the Home Depot, and carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty from Toter (I can include a receipt for warranty purposes).
One has been used once, the second is completely new. Both have an 8in x10in house number stencil which I will paint back to blank.
I am selling because upon first use, the trash people informed me that Cambridge only allows trash cans up to 50 gallons, meaning I'll have to downgrade to the inferior Rubbermaid brand.
I'll sell for $55 each, $15 under Home Depot's price new.

On a personal note, this makes me very sad. I have previously always made due with a misfit pack of mongrel trash cans, missing lids and squirrel chewed. Trash cans were never something that I felt the need to invest significant money into, because, they simply hold trash, a lowly calling. But, once they break down you quickly realize that sanitation services are some of the most important facets of modern existence. I had finally reached a point in my life when I could justify nice trash cans, and I went out and bought the Cadillac of trash cans. I'm sure that the Rubbermaid that I'm going to replace them with are nice cans also, but these are Toters, industrial strength, professional trash cans. I was really looking forward to having the trash can part of my life sorted out for at least the next 10 years. But no. Perhaps I'll get 10 years out of the Rubermaids also, but every time they get scuffed by the trash people or attacked by a squirrel I'm going to wonder how my Toters would have fared, because I'm pretty sure they could have taken it.

Please drop a line if you are interested.

Good news about your trash cans. First, I am sure you will sell these. Second, this same high end trash can from Toter is available in two sizes that are smaller than 50 gallons - 48 and 32.

I think you can get them at Lowes, Home Depot and True Value Hardware stores. Also, on-line at Home Depot, Lowes and True Value. I found them by going to the online sites and searching for "toter".

FYI looks like Somerville (confusingly) only takes containers that must not weigh more than 50lbs when full...

I just bought this exact same trash can 2 weeks ago, and haven't had any issues with the trash collectors emptying them so far..

These have the metal bar that allows them to use the lifter to empty them, but not sure if Somerville uses these for trash.

Btw I think the new mixed use recycling containers are also 64 gallon, so I can't imagine there would be an issue using the same size for trash.
