MTA maps covered?

davis_squareDoes anyone know why the T-maps that are on the walls of T-stations (At least Davis, Porter and Harvard) are all covered with white plastic? Likewise, at least the cars I was in yesterday had no full maps on the walls.
Are they preparing to replace the maps with one that includes the hypothetical green-line expansion?
