Photoshoot locations

Hi,

My friends and I want to photograph some costumes they've made. We usually do our photo shoots in Nathan Tufts park, but we'd like to mix it up. Does anyone have suggestions for interesting locations within walking distance of Davis Square where we could take photographs without getting in the way of other people?

Kenney Park, corner of Grove St and Highland Ave, doesn't get much use (at least not compared to Statue Park and Seven Hills Park).

Glover Circle is a small street that narrows down to a walkway with houses on either side. It runs between Dover Street and Meacham Road.

A few weeks earlier and I would have suggested the top of the Tisch Library at Tufts, but with everyone coming back to campus about now, it might be busier than you're looking for.

Depending on the costumes, the North Cambridge Cemetery (Rindge Ave) or St. Paul's Cemetery (Broadway and Alewife Brook Pkwy) might be interesting, and are almost always completely deserted.

I bet if you emailed the folks who run the Community Growing Center http://www.thegrowingcenter.org/about.html you could get permission to be there for a few hours for a photo shoot. Visually, it's a beautiful place with bushes, trees, a labyrinth, a pond, flowers, vegetables, paths, walls, etc. etc.

In the same neighborhood, Prospect Hill Park is picturesque and features a view of the Boston skyline. (But both of these suggestions are well beyond walking distance of Davis Square.)

Danehy Park in North Cambridge is built on an old landfill, and features large expanses of rolling hill without many trees. It is a big place so even though it can be busy, there are plenty of out-of-the way corners you can use.

I didn't know it was an old landfill! It's beautiful, I bike through every day on my way to work.

Somerville Junction Park is a quiet place known mostly to dog walkers and bicycle riders.

If you'd like to have a huge construction project as a backdrop, try Warwick St. next to the MaxPak site. You'd probably need to do this on a weekend or after 6 pm.

MaxPak used to be such a gorgeous post-urban wilderness. Would have been a really nice spot.
