The survey is very brief and should take you less than 5 minutes to complete.

The Somerville Commission for Women (SCW) is in the process of determining how to best provide service to the women of Somerville. To assist in this process, the SCW is conducting a data collection and needs assessment research project with the cooperation of two graduate school interns from The Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy/ UMass Boston. Additionally, the SCW is leading the coalition of organizations in the city to cooperate with data collection and needs assessment including CAAS, Groundwork Somerville, Cambridge Health Alliance, and Shape Up Somerville.


The Status of Women project is aimed to collect the picture of who are the women in Somerville, what are the services they are using, where is there a lack of services, and what projects the Commission for Women should take on with partnerships from the community to best meet the needs of the Somerville women.

What's the point of restricting the survey to women, exactly?

For that matter, why is there a commission for women when the members of the disenfranchised span the sexes?

Because it's PC to exclude certain disenfranchised groups of people when one group has the perception that they are or have been oppressed. Sheesh. Don't you know that by now? ; )

This particular commission and survey is focused on women, but there are other groups and other commissions in Somerville who are focused on other groups of disenfranchised people. We are not excluding people, we are filling a particular need and we work with other groups that fill other particular needs. It is difficult to be all things to all people.
