Davis Square road construction & detours next week

An e-mail I just got:

Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with important information regarding road work in your area. In order to complete safety upgrades on street infrastructure along Elm, Chester, and Orchard Streets, street closures and parking restrictions will apply next week.

Beginning on Sunday, September 18th at 8 a.m. and last through Monday, September 19th, Elm Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic to allow City crews to conduct necessary infrastructure and crosswalk repair along the corridor. Detours and police details will be in place, including the conversion of Highland Avenue to a two-way street beginning in Davis Square for the duration of this work. The municipal parking lot on Day Street will remain open to vehicles.

Milling work will begin on Chester and Orchard Streets on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, and you will be notified when specific times have been finalized.

If you have any questions, please contact 311. Thank you for your assistance during this important infrastructure improvement program.

Of course, both yesterday and today they were already out working on Chester, so I'm not sure why that aspect only merits mention now.

Yep, I walked up Chester from Orchard to Elm and ended up in the middle of a construction site. Cops were keeping people from walking the other way, which was a big problem for Redbones.

Do they really mean "through Monday"? Why would they do this work on Sunday and Monday, instead of Saturday and Sunday?

I guess it was just in case the work took longer than expected. Elm Street was open as usual this morning.
