Contractor to Re-tile a bathroom
Sep. 19th, 2011 11:08 pmDoes anyone have any suggestion on finding a contractor to retile a bathroom?
If you have hired someone to do it before, can you tell me how much it cost roughly? How long did it take? I only have one bathroom so I am worried that I cannot use it when the work is on-going.
Thanks.

Date: 2011-09-20 02:45 pm (UTC)If you want your wall tile replaced, it is possible that the wall behind it needs to be replaced, or covered with another layer, depending on how cleanly the tiles come of. The mastic could be scraped off as well, but that can take a lot of time as well.

Date: 2011-09-20 08:36 pm (UTC)We called him in a panic a couple days before Thanksgiving one year because our shower had failed. So this was largely plumbing, but in order to make it work he had to take down all the tile on one wall. And then he put it back -- our bathroom is old and he couldn't find any matching tile and he didn't want us to have a weird-looking wall so he (well, the guy working for him, technically) did the demolition part without breaking a single tile, and put them back better than they'd started. And this all took around 24 hours, despite the holiday week. And then we could take showers again, yay!
I no longer remember the cost, sorry.
tl;dr Sergio is the man.
