Random question: do any of you know anyone who's bought a car through one of those "the government reposessed this car, so you can have it PRACTICALLY FREE!" auction dealies? I can't tell if it's a scam or a good deal.

I have a friend who used to work at them. They're not a scam. They're repossessed cars confiscated from drug dealers and other felons. There's actually one near Somerville I believe.

No guarantee that it'll be "practically free," but people definitely get good deals at them.

I'm currently in the market for a newer used car. Do you know where the one in Somerville might be?

I went to one, and helped a friend buy a car there. She was happy with it. However, there are some things to be wary of. You might not be allowed to drive the car first, and they're often sold as is. If you don't know cars, try to bring someone who does to try to keep from getting stuck with a lemon.

Don't go without either a lot of automotive expertise or someone who has same.
