Doing my civic duty to post that my downstairs neighbors apartment was broken into - Beacon & Forest St. near Porter. Doesn't appear to be anything missing - thinking the thug got spooked off by our alarm system. Feeling kind of tense since someone posted about a break in on Chandler St. somewhat recently and these things happen in waves...etc.

Date: 2011-10-01 11:19 am (UTC)Police say that it is common for individuals to target neighborhoods during the day when many residents are at work or school: They ring the front doorbell and if they get no answer, they go around back to find cover for breaking in. They often work a given street/neighborhood for a few days and then move on.
My advice for everyone is make sure your doors and first-floor windows are locked, and keep valuables out of sight. And if somebody rings your doorbell during the day and you answer it and he/she has a lame excuse for why they are at your door, do notify the police.
