Adult Hebrew Class

This course will focus on the grammar of liturgical Hebrew. We will use the Havurat Shalom Friday night liturgy as our primary textbook,
accompanied by many handouts. You will learn 1) to enjoy grammar, 2) to understand the structure of Hebrew sentences and words, 3) to
figure out what word in the Hebrew corresponds to what in the English and when and how they don't correspond, 4) how to change genders and numbers on the fly, and 5) what's going on when someone else makes changes on the fly. This class assumes no previous knowledge except the alphabet; if you need to review that, contact me in advance and
we'll set up a meeting before the first class to go over that. This class will also be appropriate for people fairly comfortable with Hebrew but wanting to learn more about Hebrew grammar. You'll probably learn some new things about English, too.

Our first meeting will be on Sunday, Oct. 16, 5:00-7:00, and we will work out a schedule of 10 Sundays, avoiding Jewish and secular holidays and other conflicts, and going through January.

Cost: If there are four or more students, there will be a sliding scale of $170-$270, payable on the first day of class. If there are three or fewer, the sliding scale will be $200-300. If this is not feasible, come anyway and we'll figure out an alternative arrangement.

Nina Katz has been teaching grammar-focused Hebrew classes at the Hav for many a year. She finds grammar fun, and so do her students.
