Has anyone rec'd their new single stream recycling cart?  According to the email I rec'd from the city Monday, delivery would start on Tuesday and move from west to east, and might spill into next week.     Based on where I live, it seems like they are behind in the delivery.

Nothing yet in Davis that I've seen.

Nothing yet, but I'm well east of Davis.

ETA: Hmm. The FAQ on the site says that they start delivering this week, but that they expect to be completed by the 28th. So it might well be that it's going to take them a while!

Also, not on the exact same topic: "Q. What happens if I lose the recycling cart?
A. Call 311 to report that it is missing. Each cart has a unique serial number, which allows us to track and identify individual carts. We will try to track it down and return it. If not, we will drop a new one off on the curb in front of your house." YES!!! No more fuckwits stealing my recycling bin! Or if they do, they'll either get caught, or I'll get a new one without having to take time off work to go to the damn DPW!

Dang! Few things (not counting politics these days) make me froth at the mouth more than having my recycling bin stolen. But if the "we'll drop off a new one" thing is still true, I'll be happy enough. Apparently Cambridge does that, and it would make life so much easier.

I'm slightly west of Davis, nothing here.

I saw a bunch out on the street yesterday on Central Street on Winter Hill, but none nearer Porter/Davis yet.

Was Central St in the pilot area, or is it new there? I'm a couple streets over (Glenwood) and we're in the pilot area so we've had the bins for months now & you'd have seen them every Wednesday (or Thurs after holidays). I can't remember the exact outline of the pilot area.

The pilot area is all of Ward 5. Parts of Central Street are in the ward, and parts aren't. In some places the ward boundary runs down the middle of Central Street.

OK, I knew it wasn't all Ward 5, so I googled. It does include the NW (even) side of Central St, from Albion up to Broadway.

The pilot area was bounded by Broadway, Central, Albion, and Lowell-Wilton-Ryan:

(And why do I all of a sudden today get a French version of Livejoural's posting interface? Thank goodness for HS French class! Now to push "Soumettre.")

Whooops! Sorry for giving misinformation. Unfortunately I can't edit the comment after it's been replied to. Thanks for correcting it.

Huh. I'm in Winter Hill, and I'm fairly certain the flyer at home says Oct 17, not Oct 10. I wonder if they've been confused with the information they're spreading? Or just that since I'm so far east, the flyer I got said a week later, since it'll be later.

October 17th is the date they're supposed to start picking up single stream recycling, not the date they're supposed to start delivering the bins.

Aha! Well, at least I'm not crazy for remembering that date from the flyer.

It sounds like delivery of the bins started today:

I live as far west in Somerville as you can get (can walk to Arlington in about 3 minutes), and we haven't received anything yet.

I will say, I didn't want that BIG barrel when I got it for the pilot project - I barely fill our old blue tote with recyclables - but it's been SO NICE to have a place to stick the cardboard as it comes in, and dump the scrap paper box whenever it fills up. I love the new system now. I don't have to store cardboard somewhere (always in the way!) until I have enough to be worth folding/cutting & tying, or remember to tie up the scrap paper on just the right night.

We received ours on Kidder yesterday. We met the delivery people on the curb, and had to wait to take the bins until they could record the serial numbers.

"Zero-sort"

I'm...a little confused about this "zero-sort" terminology. I just moved to Somerville recently, and my roommates and I have just been throwing all of our recyclable items (boxes, bottles, cans) into the blue bins and putting them out front for pickup. Was that stuff...supposed to be sorted? Sorry for the dumb question.
