Hi All, I am writing on behalf of a new, Somerville-based, all-female post-collegiate a cappella group. We are looking into venues for our winter concert, and I was wondering if anyone knew of spaces we could use--we are open to churches, restaurants, halls, anything. Only catch is that we cannot pay much. We since popular music, choral music and will have some holiday tunes. Let me know if anyone has ideas. Thanks!

I'd look into Unity Somerville and Urban Promise churches, which Theatre@First and Post-Meridian Radio Players have both recently used. Also perhaps First Church Somerville.

My a cappella group (http://www.sassafrassmusic.com) has performed at Unity before. Betty was great, we had a nice spot, and the price was right. Recommended!

Wherever you end up, do post a notice about the concert here. I'd love to go!

I would absolutely check with the Museum of Modern Renaissance. Their space is beautiful, and they are really cool people who love hosting concerts.

It's a former Masonic hall, now turned into the private home of two Russian artists who have hung their work all over the walls and (especially) ceiling. They are open for Somerville Open Studios in May, and sometimes have concerts (usually classical I think).

I visited last Open Studios, when it's open to the public.
The space is truly beautiful, every inch covered in inspiring art. Each panel tells a different folk-tale, including Babe the Big Blue Ox.

That said, I'm a huge acappella fan. Do you have any demo music?

Ryles has hosted a cappella concerts in the past.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any venues to recommend, but I wanted to know -- are you having auditions any time soon? I'm an alto who is contemplating looking for a group to join, and I have a cappella experience.

Anyone happen to know of local mixed or male post-college a cappella groups?
