To the individual who stole from my amazon box which was delivered to my front steps while I was at work:

You obviously do not believe in Karma if you are willing to commit such a petty, yet invasive crime.  You opened MY amazon package on MY front steps, removed the contents, and left the violated package behind.  It it quite obvious that the package had a similar size & shape as a laptop.  I bet you were quite surprised when you pulled out a used Neurology book.

I hope they lobotomize you.

A used neurology book? That'll serve them right?

But why did they not leave the used neurology book on the front steps as well as the empty box, since obviously it was not what they wanted?

i say, set a human trap and bait it with Amazon boxes. you'd probably bag the limit within hours. :>

Sorry for your frustration!

When I was in the homeless shelter, I met a woman who said she did this kind of thing as a way to get money (not for drugs, for food, shelter, transportation, etc.). She was normally a very kind and good person. But sometimes even the best people get desperate and see how well others are off and it seems justified to take a little from the wealthy to give to the poor.

I did tell her that what she was doing might sometimes affect people like me (also homeless) as I sometimes sold things through Amazon to make a little money, and that if a package wasn't delivered, I would lose out. She seemed to be genuinely thoughtful about that information.

I think as long as there is huge inequality in society, there will always be people who are desperate enough to risk their health/safety by doing illegal and socially unsupported things. It's sad, and I hope that we do manage to use the movement of the 99% folks to bring up the quality of life for those at the bottom 1% (and hopefully the whole bottom 40% as well).

We seem to be having the same problem on Summer Street - it's a big building, and one tenant has definitely had multiple boxes disappear, only to turn up empty in the recycling.

What book was it? (I might have this book and if it's going to cost you money to replace it, I could possibly loan it to you, but I would want it back).

Sorry to hear it.

However, I am getting a little tired of this format of complaint ("Dear asshole...").
