Did you know that the Resistat has a blog, and it's got character? Me neither. Just found it as I chanced upon this Love Tote contest.

“We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response to the new toters, so much so that residents are taking the time to blog, Tweet, and post their approval to social media outlets across the spectrum,” Mayor Curtatone said. “Since we live in the kind of city where residents actually post photos of their new Zero-Sort recycling toters online—without prompting—we’ve decided it would be fun to kick it up a notch.”

Speaking of the zero-sort recycling bins, has anyone else not received theirs yet? All of our neighbors have them and I called 311 to let them know, but then I was really sick for a week and a half and forgot to follow up. It's so frustrating!

I had to call to get ours. On the day they were delivered, I looked down the street and every house seemed to have gotten them except us. Feelings hurt. Called, and now we have them.

I don't see how. If you give it back they'll assign it to someone else.

I wouldn't go to the hassle of "bringing it back" either, but if you call 311, they might be able to pick it up and deliver it to someone else who wants it.

I also chanced upon this (via facebook) and I am amused. Though I am not sure sure I love the tote.

I'm fine with the big one stored next to the house, and love not having to bundle up cardboard and having an easy place to stick shredded paper...

but I'm not fine with the number of broken glass bottles I've seen around in the past few weeks right after trash day. I hope I am imagining that there are more, or that it is a coincidence. (My suspicion if I'm _not_ imagining it is that people go through the deep barrels looking for reedeemable bottles, and stuff falls out, or people dump their indoor buckets into the barrels and stuff goes smash.)

I just feel bad for the people who go around on recycling days to pick returnable bottles and cans from the bins. Must be a heck of a lot harder now with these big totes. I try to leave ours on top as much as possible.

I feel kind of mixed on this. The point of the deposit system is to encourage recycling, so taking deposit bottles out of people's recycling to put in deposit-system recycling machines is... I don't know, it feels a bit wrong, especially when I see a guy in a minivan driving around to collect the semi-free money. (Apparently it is worth the gas money?) It's an otherwise great system, and I don't like to see people endangering it by using it as an income source.

(Ugh, I come across as so cold-hearted in this comment.)
