Have you tried Highland Kitchen? I also like Five Horses' fried chicken, but it's not exactly traditional.

I haven't been there yet, but i know Trina's Starlight Lounge has chicken and waffles.

Summer Shack also has fried chicken, though i haven't tried it yet either.

Finally, there's The Coast Cafe -- the one time i got their fried chicken i thought it was a bit dry, but I've heard good things.

(I'm anxious to see what other folks recommend!!)

Pemberton Farms occasionally has it for take-out at the deli counter.

(And there are no more KFCs in Cambridge or Somerville -- all have closed.)

The "99 Restaurant" in Assembly Square has an amazing plate of country fried chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes, veggie and a biscuit for $9.99.

COAST CAFE IS THE ONLY PLACE TO GET FRIED CHICKEN. Everything else is sub-par. Take it from a Southerner.

Check out the Plough and Stars on Sunday nights. They've got a chicken and fish fry that's really fantastic. I somehow came home with two big take-out containers full of fried chicken a couple of weeks ago and ate like a king for a couple of days. Even better is the blackened catfish. Add some fried cornbread, cheese grits and collard greens… *drool*
