Anyone know of a local restaurant that serves great fried chicken?

I am hoping to do better than KFC!

Have you tried Highland Kitchen? I also like Five Horses' fried chicken, but it's not exactly traditional.

Somehow I had totally missed Sagra closing until now. Five Horses looks like fun -- thank you for the pointer, I'll have to make a (uh) point of going there soon!

Seconding Highland Kitchen. FYI, I think they only have the chicken as a Monday night special, but they also have a Tiki drink special on Mondays, so win-win!

I haven't been there yet, but i know Trina's Starlight Lounge has chicken and waffles.

Summer Shack also has fried chicken, though i haven't tried it yet either.

Finally, there's The Coast Cafe -- the one time i got their fried chicken i thought it was a bit dry, but I've heard good things.

(I'm anxious to see what other folks recommend!!)

I like Summer Shack's fried chicken. I've only had it once, but it was good.

I like Eat at Jumbos, but their chicken tenders are just eh to me.

Pemberton Farms occasionally has it for take-out at the deli counter.

(And there are no more KFCs in Cambridge or Somerville -- all have closed.)

Isn't there one on Broadway east of 28? Shared with a Taco Bell?

(I pass it every day on my way home from work and I can't remember if it's a twofer or not)

It's a little farther afield, but Tupelo in Inman's darned good.

I just ate at Tupelo for my birthday on Tuesday. I had the chicken with dumplings, and O. M. G. Yes.

So I would *imagine* that their fried chicken would also be good.

I also second Highland Kitchen's as pretty good.

The "99 Restaurant" in Assembly Square has an amazing plate of country fried chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes, veggie and a biscuit for $9.99.

This is my favorite thing there. And something I don't get much anymore there except as a treat.

Andreas used to have Chester Fried Chicken and it was the best fried chicken I ever had, used to get it all the time, unfortunately Roadies pales in comparison :(

COAST CAFE IS THE ONLY PLACE TO GET FRIED CHICKEN. Everything else is sub-par. Take it from a Southerner.

Plough on Sundays

Check out the Plough and Stars on Sunday nights. They've got a chicken and fish fry that's really fantastic. I somehow came home with two big take-out containers full of fried chicken a couple of weeks ago and ate like a king for a couple of days. Even better is the blackened catfish. Add some fried cornbread, cheese grits and collard greens… *drool*

Uh, yeah, so that's more Central than Davis, but it's worth the trip. :-)
