In the short term I rec'd a coffee cake from the Boston Coffee Cake Company.  It is obviously not a canned good, but it is sealed in platic and a box and it is fancy.  I won't be able to consume it.  Where can I donate it?

In the long term, where can I donate canned goods?  I'm looking for something convenient and reliable in the sense that they always accept donations during certain hours.  EG analogous to when I want to donate clothes I just go to Salvation Army or Goodwill during their business hours, I don't have to think about it, or wait for a clothing drive etc.

I know that the Stop & Shop near I-93 (past Winter Hill) accepts canned food donations, but am not sure whether they do so year-round. Might be worth asking whether the Porter Square Shaws does, too.

It's not that close, but Harvest Co-op in Central Square has a place for food donations that's available whenever the store is open.

The Foodmaster just past Arlington Center is open until 9pm, and they have a box inside to accept food donations to the Arlington Food Pantry. It's right between the cash registers and the door, for the convenience of anybody who wants to get an extra package of something and give it away right then. Nobody minds if a person just comes in and puts in a few things that came from other stores, though they aren't set up to take crates of stuff. The Harvest Food Coop in Central Square has a similar box, collecting for the Greater Boston Food Bank.

I wonder if the Johnny Foodmasters at Broadway and rt 16 also receives donations; it's closer to Davis Square and it is spitting distance from the Clarendon Hill bus stops (88, 89, and I don't recall which others...).

For the coffee cake, I suggest taking it to the homeless shelter that's in the church on College Ave, entrance on Chapel Street.

I volunteer at the Elizabeth Peabody House Food Pantry in Somerville every Thursday. I live in Davis, right on Elm st near Posto, and I would be happy to bring any donation in to the pantry.
